Chasqui publishes news and features about IDB staff-related activities and personnel policy issues.

Who is Chasqui?
Chasqui is produced by a team of editors, writers, proofreaders and photographers in collaboration with its Editorial Advisory Board. Each issue relies on contributions from staff throughout the Bank, both at headquarters and in country offices.

Editorial Advisory Board
Chasqui’s Editorial Advisory Board, which is comprised of Bank staff from all departments and levels, meets monthly to discuss content and make suggestions for future articles.

What does Chasqui mean?
The word Chasqui means "messenger" in Quechua, the ancient Inca language. During the 15th century the Inca Empire included most of Ecuador and Bolivia, all of Peru, northern Chile and northern Argentina. To communicate in such a vast empire the Inca rulers developed an extensive trail system connecting the ancient Inca capitals. Chasquis were dispatched along thousands of miles of Inca trails stopping at tambos, or inns, along the way. Arriving at a tambo, the Chasqui would hand off his satchel to another messenger who would continue on to the next tambo, until the message was delivered to its final destination.
